Earthquake Data Record Sheet

Earthquake Scenario Probabilities

Visit http://quake.usgs.gov/~dalessio/DLESE/EQ/scenarios.html and click on each of the faults named in the table below. Record the estimated magnitude and the probability that such a quake would occur.

1906 San Andreas

1989 Loma Prieta

(Santa Cruz)

Hayward

Concord/ Green Valley

Predicted Shaking Intensity / Liquefaction Susceptibility

Visit http://quake.usgs.gov/~dalessio/DLESE/EQ/index.html and click on one of the blue boxes, this will zoom in on the map. Click again and you will see the location of one of your choices of where to live.Fill in the city name (see top of map) and then use the links to the right of the map to find the level of shaking (intensity) that location would feel if a high magnitude earthquake occurred on each of the faults. Fill in the table with the appropriate shaking intensity number. Then determine the level of liquefaction and record your result. Zoom back out and visit another city.
